Remote sensing techniques to assess post-fire vegetation recovery

نویسندگان

چکیده

Wildfires substantially disrupt and reshape the structure, composition functioning of ecosystems. Monitoring post-fire recovery dynamics is crucial for evaluating resilience securing relevant information that will enhance management support ecosystem restoration after fires. Compared to extensive labour-intensive field campaigns, remote sensing provides a time- cost-effective tool monitor vegetation (PVR). This concise literature review presents tools recent advances in techniques, focusing on most commonly used sensors indicators/metrics. It also recommendations use these assessing existing gaps regarding technical limitations could guide future research.

Remote Sensing of Forest Fire Severity and Vegetation Recovery

Burned forested areas have patterns of varying burn severity as a consequence of various topographic, vegetation, and meteorological factors. These patterns are detected and mapped using satellite data. Other ecological information can be abstracted from satellite data regarding rates of recovery of vegetation foliage and variation of burn severity on different vegetation types. Middle infrared...

Remote Sensing Techniques to Assess Water Quality

Remote sensing techniques can be used to monitor water quality parameters (i.e., suspended sediments (turbidity), chlorophyll, and temperature). Optical and thermal sensors on boats, aircraft, and satellites provide both spatial and temporal information needed to monitor changes in water quality parameters for developing management practices to improve water quality. Recent and planned launches...

Remote Sensing Techniques in Monitoring Post-Fire Effects and Patterns of Forest Recovery in Boreal Forest Regions: A Review

The frequency and severity of forest fires, coupled with changes in spatial and temporal precipitation and temperature patterns, are likely to severely affect the characteristics of forest and permafrost patterns in boreal eco-regions. Forest fires, however, are also an ecological factor in how forest ecosystems form and function, as they affect the rate and characteristics of tree recruitment....
